International Workers Day

International Workers Day or May Day is held on May 1 or 2 and is a day that honors the working people of the land. Farm laborers, machine and factory workers, bakers, grocers, etc this day is a special day for all who work. Mammoth parades are held in the huge Red Square in Moscow. Flags and banners are carried by the marchers. It is customary also to parade military armaments such as tanks, rockets, and missiles.

Mayday, until recently was officially termed as International Workers' Solidarity Day, it is also now known as Spring and Labour Day. Some years, it occurs on or close to the Russian Orthodox Easter, so some people celebrate in church while some attend customary demonstrations.
